The 11-month Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Program at Fortis College in Smyrna trains its students to become HVAC mechanics, technicians or installers. Using computerized diagnostics, students learn to repair and maintain air conditioning, commercial refrigerators, heat pumps and gas heat in both classrooms and hands-on laboratories. At the end of the program, HVAC graduates can take the certification exam needed to become licensed.The tuition, including books and certification exam, is $18,633.

This program emphasizes green technology, energy efficiency and conservation. Students will learn to repair, maintain and troubleshoot both residential and commercial air conditioning and heating systems. The curriculum includes general refrigeration and air conditioning systems, commercial refrigeration and heating systems, and green technology. The program includes the certificate examination leading to licensing in the State of Georgia. The cost of the certificate program is $21,000.


Marietta Georgia HVAC Certification and Licensing
The State of Georgia does not require the completion of a certification program for HVAC technician licensing. However, it is good to keep in mind that certifications offer additional employment opportunities. If you do not plan on taking the certification exam at an accredited HVAC program, you can take the exam online. You will require proper licensing in order to work on air conditioning equipment. In order to obtain your license, you need a high school diploma or equivalent. A Conditioned Air Contractor License is required of any contractor who installs, repairs, services or bids on air conditioning system jobs. There are two different licenses:


Class I is for contractors working on air conditioning equipment that have less than 175,000 heating and 60,000 cooling BTU .


Class II is for contractors and technicians. It is unrestricted and allows for on any air conditioning system.


The licensing examination consists of 100 questions and is open book. The test must be completed within seven hours and with 70 percent accuracy. Topics covered are laws and regulation, repair, installation and maintenance of HVAV systems. The cost of the license exam is $240.00. The State of Georgia also has a reciprocal agreement with Texas and South Carolina, which will honor your Georgia license.
