About Southern Careers Institute
Southern Careers Institute first opened its doors in 1960 and has grown exponentially over the years. By expanding the number of campuses and variety of programs, SCI has made higher education available to more and more students every year. The mission is simple: to educate those seeking immediate career opportunities through a rigorous curriculum that is tailored to the needs of each industry, and providing students with all the tools to be ready to enter the workforce. Industry leaders work closely with the instructors, ensuring the course work has a laser focus on preparing students to have the confidence and skills needed upon graduation.
The SCI Edge
There are key elements that are unique to Southern Careers Institute, giving the what is termed the “SCI Edge.” These elements help students become viable candidates for positions in their chosen profession, giving them the edge they need for immediate success.
First, every program prepares students for national and state certification tests. No matter the field, if there is a certification test, the curriculum is designed around it for students to achieve immediate success when they complete their program.
Second, in an effort to work with the employers and partners of SCI, students can achieve Career Skills Badges that are actually electronic badges earned throughout the length of their program and act as credentials for the employers and partners.
Lastly, the SCI Connect is an online program that contains student's profiles, Career Badges, and portfolios and certifications, all accessible by employer partners. This is an excellent program allowing potential employers to find students and soon-to-be graduates, matching their skill sets with the company needs.

Admission Process
To enroll into Southern Careers Institute, applicants need to follow these steps:
• Fill the admission form
• Schedule an appointment with their Admissions Representative
• Take a campus tour
• Take part in the complimentary career planning session
• Meet the minimum admission requirements
• Complete the Enrollment Agreement
Career Services
Students who make use of the Career Services throughout their coursework will have the skills needed to write excellent resumes and cover letters to gain interviews. The Sci Career Services staff works with students on interviewing skills and job searches. Add the benefits of the SCI Connect program, graduates will have a top notch profile from which employers can choose the perfect candidate to match the needs of their company.
Financial Aid
Southern Careers Institute offers financial assistance to its students in several forms, including federal grants, federal Pell grant, William D. Ford federal direct loan program, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), scholarships, and student loans.
Military Friendly

Southern Careers Institute provides various professional career training courses in the fields of business, computer, medical, cosmetology, and trade, along with workshops and boot camps. Some of these courses are also offered online.
Business Accounting Specialist
In this program, students learn about computerized accounting systems, fundamental accounting principles, payroll, financial analysis, business processes, taxes, payables and receivables, etc. After completing this course, graduates are eligible for various certifications, including CPB (Certified Professional Bookkeeper), Microsoft excel, Intuit QuickBooks, Microsoft power point, Microsoft outlook, and Microsoft word.

This program teaches students accounting principles, executive assisting, customer service, scheduling and planning, etc. After graduation, students can take several certification examinations, such as Microsoft outlook, Microsoft excel, Microsoft word, and Microsoft power point. They can get into military, government agencies, law offices, accounting firms, and general business agencies.
Computer Support Specialist
This course prepares students to provide technical support, assistance, and give suggestions to computer users, in addition to helping them in troubleshooting hardware and software problems. They learn about various career skills, including public speaking, customer services, writing, listening, problem-solving, etc. Applicants are prepared for several certifications and licenses, like Comptia A+, IC3 digital literacy, Comptia Security + Syo-301, Comptia Network + N10-005, NETSIM (Test Out) PC Pro, Test Out Network Pro, Windows 8 certifications, Microsoft office certifications (excel, word, outlook, power point), etc.
Medical Assistant
In this program, students are taught how to assist doctors, work with nurses, and care for patients. They learn to read vital signs, draw blood, perform ECGs and CPR, along with EKG monitoring, phlebotomy, professional communication, office administration, patient care, pharmacology, clinical skills, etc.
Medical Billing & Coding Specialist
This course teaches students how to bridge the gap between insurance companies, doctors, and patients. They learn about medical insurance billing, keyboarding skills, computer applications, medical codes, business communication skills, patient care, ICD 9 and ICD 10, charting, office administration, and so much more.
Medical Billing & Coding Specialist
In this online program, students learn about patient care, ICD 9 and ICD 10, charting, and office administration. After completing this course, graduates are eligible to sit for certification examinations, such as CMAA (Medical Administrative Assistant), CBCS (Certified Billing and Coding Specialist), EHRS (Electronic Health Records Specialist), Microsoft Word, etc.
Medical Office Specialist
This program teaches students how to perform several medical tasks and manage medical offices. They learn about computer applications, keyboarding skills, business communication skills, medical terminology, medical office duties, patient care, medical charting, insurance processing, electronic health records, office administration, and so much more.
Pharmacy Technician
In this course, students learn computer applications, keyboarding, basic pharmacology skills, pharmacy operations and procedures, FDA drug safety, prescription processing, basic compounding, and pharmacology.
Cosmetology Training Program
This program teaches students skin, hair, and nail care skills care, in accordance with the health and safety procedures. They learn about barbering, hair cutting, hair styling, hair coloring, nails, make-up applications, hair, scalp, and skin care treatments, product recommendation, salon management, facials, perms and relaxers, waxing, manicuring, and so much more.
Cosmetology Instructor
This course prepares students to achieve the licensure of a Cosmetology Instructor through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Students learn about basic skills, proper work habits, safety, and salon management in the field of cosmetology.
Manicure Technician Program
This program enables students to receive the licensure of a Nail Technician, offered by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Its curriculum includes the study of artificial nails, manicures, pedicures, nail products, professional salon tools, nail art, equipment regulation, massage techniques, anatomy, business planning, salon management, retail operations, etc.
HVAC Technician Training
The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technician course is designed to place students at the commercial and residential levels of HVAC. Students learn how to install, maintain, and restore temperature control equipments, along with knowledge about piping, green technology, refrigeration systems, customer services, and so much more.
Welding Training
This program covers welding safety methods, basic metallurgy, machine set-ups, blueprint reading, shop math, and welding symbols. Upon completion, graduates can gain positions as combo welders, Tig welders, Mig welders, fabricators, sheet metal workers, pipe fitters, etc.
Workshops & Boot camps
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Certification
The CPR training is approved by the American Heart Association (AHA). It includes rescuer scenarios, adult and pediatric CPR training, bag masks usage, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) usage, and foreign body airway obstruction (conscious and unconscious victim).
ICD-10 workshops
The ICD-10 workshop is approved by the American Heart Association (AHA). It encompasses the knowledge needed to shift from ICD9 codes to ICD10 codes, in addition to rescuer scenarios, adult and pediatric CPR training, bag mask usage, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) usage, foreign body airway obstruction (conscious and unconscious victim), etc.
Microsoft Excel workshops
The Microsoft Excel workshops are divided into two categories:
(i) Introduction to Excel
In this workshop, students learn about various shortcuts and tricks to set worksheets, design custom charts and graphs, sort and analyze data and mathematical formulas, calculate statistics, loan payments, future value, and so much more.
(ii) Advanced Excel
In this workshop, students learn how to create eye-catching and informative graphs and charts, in addition to knowledge of Excel’s AutoFilter commands and data analysis tools. They also learn to create macros to manipulate data, use Goal Seek and Solver to solve real world problems, along with advanced PivotTables techniques, such as creating calculated fields, timelines, and calculated items.
QuickBooks workshops
This is a QuickBooks certification test preparatory course, which includes basic accounting principles, types of business entities, general ledger, accepted cash vs. accrual accounting, subsidiary journals, accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank reconciliation, purchasing, sales, inventory, payroll (with taxes), depreciation, closing entries, reporting, etc.
Virtual workshops
Virtual workshops are provided in association with Ed2Go, and are offered online for business, accounting, healthcare, computer training, teaching, legal, writing, and computer application design fields at the levels of introductory, beginner and immediate.
