Financial Aid

Real Time Court Reporting
Real Time Court Reporting refers to the official recording of history, which is used as a reference for students, scholars, and legal professionals. They have a unique capability to convert spoken words into information, which can be archived, searched, and read. The Real Time Court Reporting course is offered in two forms, a Real Time Court Reporter Associate Degree (AOS) and a Stenotype Hearing Reporter Certificate. After completing a certificate or degree course in Real Time Court Reporting, graduates can pursue their careers in closed or broadcast captioning, judicial court reporting, freelance court reporting, and Communications Access Realtime Reporting (CART).

 

Real Time Court Reporter Associate Degree (AOS)
This degree program prepares students for entry-level positions in the court reporting field. They learn how to meet a court reporter’s entry level speed requirements, use computer-assisted writing software with proficiency, describe relevant courtroom procedures, define general knowledge of significant legal and medical terminology, and complete an acceptable freelance and court deposition transcript.

 

Stenotype Hearing Reporter Certificate
This certificate program allows students to meet a stenotype hearing reporter’s entry level speed requirements, use computer-assisted writing software with proficiency, describe relevant courtroom procedures, define general knowledge of significant legal and medical terminology, and complete an acceptable court transcript.

 

Paralegal
You can become a legal or paralegal assistant by completing this course in paralegal studies. It equips students with core law theory classes, practical skills, and specialized legal and terminology knowledge. The Paralegal course is offered in two forms, including Paralegal Studies Associate Degree Program (AOS) and Paralegal Studies Certificate Program. Upon successful completion of either of these courses, graduates can get employment opportunities at small law firms, large law firms, corporate level or public legal services, and independent contractors.

 

Paralegal Studies Associate Degree Program (AOS)
This degree course prepares students for the position of a paralegal or legal assistant. It includes core law theory classes, specialized legal classes, a specialized terminology class, an internship program, and practical skills. It teaches students to perform specific tasks, such as interviewing and locating witnesses, helping attorneys to conduct research for specific cases, conducting client interviews and maintaining contact with clients, summarizing testimony, depositions and interrogatories, drafting pleadings, correspondence and legal documents, etc.

 

Paralegal Studies Certificate Program
This certificate course prepares students for entry-level positions in a general business environment. It emphasizes on developing essential professional skills and understanding the special requirements of the legal profession.

 

Healthcare
New York Career Institute offers six different degree and certificate courses in the Healthcare field. This includes Healthcare Management Associate Degree Program (AOS), Medical Administrative Assistant Certificate Program, Medical Billing & Coding Associate Degree Program (AOS), Medical Billing & Coding Certificate Program, Certified Medical Assistant Specialist (CMAS), and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA). After completing either of these programs, students can get employed at doctor’s offices, hospitals, laboratories, clinics, nursing homes, mental healthcare facilities, etc.

 

Healthcare Management Associate Degree Program (AOS)
This degree program prepares students to get entry-level positions as medical secretaries, medical transcriptionists, medical administrative assistants, or medical billers. The course emphasizes on hands-on application skills and critical thinking, along with practice in and knowledge of many areas, such as human anatomy, processing of medical documents, medical ethics and law, and human relations. In this program, students learn to perform front desk duties and function as assistants to medical managers, manage medical personnel and patients on the phone and fix their appointments, handle everyday secretarial duties in healthcare facilities like transcription of insurance forms and medical reports, ensure patient preparedness regularly, ensure working of operating systems on a regular basis, and take the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant examination offered by the National Healthcare Association and/or the Certified Medical Administrative Specialist examination offered by the American Medical Technologist.

 

Medical Administrative Assistant Certificate Program
This certificate program allows students to take entry-level positions as medical administrative assistants. It teaches students to handle everyday secretarial duties in medical facilities, including composing routine correspondence and transcribing medical reports, making appointments, assisting medical personnel and patients on the phone in person and functioning as front desk assistants, interacting with patients, using related medical terminology, following and understanding the ethics and laws of the healthcare community, carrying out instructions of the medical personnel, and taking the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant examination with the National Healthcare Association.

 

Medical Billing & Coding Associate Degree Program (AOS)
This degree course prepares students to get employed in medical facilities to become successful coders and billers, with the necessary skills in the procedure of medical billing. In this course, students learn ICD 10 codes, abide by and understand the ethics and laws of the healthcare community, basic human anatomy, relevant medical terminology, apply fundamental accounting principles related to medical bills, and prepare for the Insurance and Coding Specialist examination with the National Center for Competency Testing.

 

Medical Billing & Coding Certificate Program
This certificate course prepares existing medical professionals, who are not much knowledgeable about the billing procedure and CPT codes, for the National Center for Competency testing exam to become as successful Insurance and Coding Specialist. In this program, students learn fundamental human anatomy, related medical terminology, and the use of ICD 10 codes.

 

Certified Medical Assistant Specialist (CMAS)
This course allows students to obtain an entry level certification of supervisory in the medical field, so that they can work completely trained as entry level supervisors and get employed as supervisory assistants to health care managers.

 

Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)
This program allows students to become medical assistants. It is ideal for those who are entering the healthcare field for the very first time. Certificate as well as degree students can take this examination. A person with a certificate in Medical Office Administration or a course degree in Health Information Technology, Medical Office Specialist, or Health Management can take this examination and can then enter the job healthcare industry as an entry level medical administrative assistant in order to expand his or her experience and thus progress to senior employment levels.
