The Erie Institute of Technology (EIT) provides educational services to those interested in pursuing a career in various technological fields. Programs focus on key areas in computers, electronics, and advanced manufacturing techniques. Traditional classroom learning is supplemented with rigorous lab-based curriculum requirements. Founded in 1958, then operating as the A.T.E.S. Technical School, EIT has evolved to provide educational opportunities focused on the needs of tomorrow’s technology careers. Completing an externship is a critical component of the educational experience for many of the programs. EIT works with students to locate appropriate opportunities, allowing them to use their skills in a professional environment. Success externships may even lead to a full time employment opportunity once the student has graduated.
Once students finish their program, EIT offers job placement assistance. Job placement professionals work with students to help them find the ideal opportunity, and provides support for the transition into the work place.
Admissions Requirements
All potential students must possess a High School diploma, or its equivalent, and be a minimum of 17 years of age. Each applicant will take part in a personal interview and is provided a full tour of the campus. To ensure students are prepared to excel in their studies, the completion of the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam is required. However, applicants are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores in order to be accepted.
Accreditation
EIT is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. Additionally, the institution is recognized as a Military Friendly School for 2016. They are prepared to help military personnel make the successful transition into civilian life, and providing them with the opportunity to further their skills in ways that allow them to begin their new careers.
Available Programs
EIT offers programs under four primary categories: computers, electronics, manufacturing, and skilled trade. Programs vary in length depending on the nature of the material being covered.
BUSINESS AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
Computers are a foundation of many businesses today. The Business and Information program introduces students to networking fundamentals, database design, and other key pieces of business software. Word processing and spreadsheet skills are included as part of the curriculum, including the use of specific Microsoft Office software products. Troubleshooting and maintenance techniques for business networks are also covered. Additional focus is placed on specific areas of business operations including Human Resources, Accounting, and Business Management.
The full program is designed to be completed in nine months, with successful graduates receiving a diploma at the end of the program. Students who complete the program should find themselves prepared for positions in many modern businesses and organizations.
MULTIMEDIA GRAPHIC DESIGN PROGRAM
The Multimedia Graphic Design program prepares students to enter the world of professional graphic design careers. The program allows students to harness their artistic talent and use it in the modern work environment. Students in the Multimedia Graphic Design program may be prepared to work in a variety of capacities, such as logo and publication design, or pursue further education in the areas of video game design and 3D animation.
Students are introduced to a wide range of software including Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator, and InDesign. They will learn digital illustration techniques, desktop publishing, digital photography and editing, 3D modeling, presentation design, and web design as part of the standard course plan.
The Multimedia Graphic Design program is designed to be completed in 18 months, and successful graduates will receive an Associate of Specialized Technology Degree from EIT.
NETWORK AND DATABASE PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM
As business becomes more interconnected, having a stable network and IT infrastructure are critical to the success of many. Database management ensure critical information is properly structured, stored, and backed up, to support larger business functions. The Network and Database Professional program helps students pursue their ideal track to work successfully in the fields.
Networking technologies including LAN and WAN systems, as well as wireless networking equipment, are covered throughout the program. Issues of reliability and redundancy are examined, as well as deployment techniques and methodology.
Database administration includes report generation and performance monitoring. Special attention is paid to backup and security management, while recognizing the important of productivity across the entire environment.
The Network and Database Professional program is designed to be completed in 21 months. Successful graduates will receive and Associate of Specialized Technology Degree from EIT.
MEDICAL EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN PROGRAM
Technology plays a big part in the rendering of medical services to the public. To ensure all diagnostic and treatment equipment is operating properly, skilled medical equipment technicians are required. The Medical Equipment Technician provides students with the skills and knowledge to work in this growing field. Students learn to install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair equipment throughout medical facilities. Coursework includes familiarizing one’s self with medical terminology while also providing fundamental computer networking skills.
The Medical Equipment Technician program is completed over the course of 18 months. Graduates from the program receive an Associate of Specialized Technology Degree.
ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN TRAINING PROGRAM
Electronics are a fundamental part of many people’s day. To perform certain work and life functions successfully, we rely on a variety of electronic equipment. If you are interested in supporting the equipment that makes many tasks possible, the Electronics Technician program may be right for you. Students learn a variety of troubleshooting and require techniques, along with installation and maintenance skills. Training is provided on both analog and digital devices, and provides a foundation upon which a student can choose to pursue a more specialized degree path.
The diploma program to become an Electronics Technician is designed to take 12 months.
ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY
Students who are interested in pursuing a more in-depth program about electronics should consider the Electronics Engineering Technology program. Coursework focuses on the necessary skills to work successfully in the electronics field. Students will also cover critical information in the areas of math and science, preparing graduates for entry-level positions within the field.
The Electronics Engineering Technology program is designed to take 24 months, and results in graduates receiving an Associate of Specialized Technology Degree. Further, students should find themselves prepared to become certified through the International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET) and the Electronics Technicians Association (ETA).
CNC / MACHINIST TECHNICIAN PROGRAM
CNC machining has revolutionized the manufacturing industry. Complex shapes can be created and reproduced with incredible accuracy and speed. To take advantage of what the technology provides, a skilled machinist needs to be in control. The CNC / Machinist Technician program trains students to work in the field of CNC machining. Coursework covers basic information, such as blueprint reading, as well as more advance problem-solving and troubleshooting techniques. Students will learn to setup and run a variety of machines including lathes and mills.
Successful students will receive a diploma at the end of this 12 month program, and should find themselves prepared to accept entry-level positions in the field.
INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE AND MECHATRONICS
For students who enjoy fixing things and are interested in all-things mechanical, the Industrial Maintenance and Mechatronics program is for you. Students learn to maintain and repair a wide range of industrial and manufacturing equipment. Coursework includes an examination of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical drives. Welding and machining skills are also covered, as well as information on electronics and electrical systems.
The Industrial Maintenance and Mechatronics program is designed to be completed in nine months. Successful students will also be prepared for receiving a refrigeration certification.
Skilled Trade Programs
AUTO BODY TECHNICIAN PROGRAM
The Auto Body Technician program prepares students to work in the automotive field. Coursework will include a variety of repair techniques, including those needed for collision repair, as well as painting. Repair estimation classes are also included in the program. Industry specific welding techniques are covered, as well as fundamental computer skills that are needed in most businesses today. Special attention is paid to customer service techniques and issues of professional development.
Successful graduates of the Auto Body Technician program will receive a diploma. All of the coursework is designed to be completed in 12 months.
ELECTRICIAN TRAINING
The Electrician program prepares students to enter the vast field of electrician services. Students will cover information relevant to residential, commercial, and industrial electrical work, preparing them for entry-level employment in the electrical field. Various power systems are explored, as well as system installation and maintenance techniques. Additional attention is paid to electrical code requirements at the national level, providing students with the foundation they require in order to work safely in the field.
The Electrician program can be completed in 15 months. Graduates of the program receive a diploma.
HVAC/R TECHNICIAN TRAINING
The HVAC/R Technology program provides students with the skills and knowledge required to work in the field of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration. Coursework includes techniques required in residential, commercial, and industrial properties. Installation, maintenance, and repair skills are covered, as well as troubleshooting methodology. Career-specific electrical skills are also covered in the coursework.
Graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions within the field. The program can be completed in 15 months and successful graduates will receive a diploma.
WELDING TECHNOLOGY TRAINING
Students with a specific interest in welding will benefit from the Welding Technology program. The program covered a variety of welding techniques based on the range of materials that may be used. Additional coursework introduces concepts like blueprint reading, shop safety, and inspection fundamentals.
Welding Technology graduates will receive a diploma after completing the 12 month program.
