Courses offered at Blackstone Career Institute:

Pharmacy Technician
As a pharmacy technician, a student is placed under the instruction of a recognized pharmacist for dispensing medication and informs the customers about newer medicines. They are placed in pharmacy counters at hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, drugstores, medical shops and much more. They deal directly with the pharmacists and patients and the medical representatives. Students who are willing to enroll in this course must hold a high school diploma certificate and are placed in the Blackstone’s Pharmacy Technician Training Program. After they graduate, they become eligible to appear for the Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT). The National Healthcareer Association (NHA) sponsors the exam. Another exam is conducted by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board which is the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE). After the exam, they receive a license for a work permit.

Medical Transcription
The job of a medical transcriptionist is to listen accurately to the recordings of health care experts and doctors and transcribe those dictated words to written reports and correspondence. A computer, a word processor, and a headset assist them to write down the records. A foot pedal is used for pausing the recordings when required. Other related jobs of the medical transcriptionist are to handle phone calls, making appointments and patients check-in.

Students who take this course in Blackstone graduate from the Blackstone’s Medical Transcription Training Program. They then take the AHDI’s Certified Healthcare Documentation Specialist (CHDS) exam. After the exam, they receive internship programs and after that, they receive the license for work.

Medical Billing and Coding
The medical coding and billing relate to that field of health care industry which deals with the processing the data of the patient like the records of the treatment received and other insurance related information. They code a patient’s diagnosis alongside payment requests from the insurance company of the patients.

The Blackstone Medical Billing and Coding program consist of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10, HCPCS II and CPT. Students who graduate in this program must sit for the Certified Professional Coder exam which is offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders. Another such program offered by the American Health Information Management Association is the Certified Coding Associate. A student must sit for both to complete the coursework for which they are fit for the internship program.

Legal Assistant
As a legal assistant, students are placed under a lawyer for performing legal works. They help the lawyers in delivering legal services and aids in other technical areas. A paralegal or a legal assistant student specializes in areas like probate and estate planning, bankruptcy, civil litigation and other such areas where they prepare the cases for trial and categorize documents and other important forms.

Students who graduate from the Blackstone’s Legal Assistant Training Program have to complete a coursework of 900 hours. They sit for the exam of the Certified Legal Assistant/ Certified Paralegal exam organized by the National Association of Legal Assistants. To meet the business criteria of legal assistantship, they have to appear for the Accredited Legal Professional exam organized by the association for legal professionals.

Physical Therapy Assistant
The physical therapy assistants work with a professional physical therapist to provide quality patient care. They perform duties such as performing therapeutic exercises to the patients, massage, and traction, performing USG and electrotherapy.
