We are happy to offer the Medical Assistant program via campus based training as well as online. In the program students will learn about anatomy and physiology and get hands-on training on how to properly prepare patients for exams. You’ll learn to take vital signs and even administer injections. You will also be trained on the respiratory and circulatory systems, how to read blood pressure and respiratory rates and how to operate an electrocardiology machine.

If you are looking for employment after graduation then many find jobs as medical assistants in doctors’ offices and clinics including outpatient centers and even rest homes. On the administrative side of the training you’ll learn how to update and keep accurate medical records on patients, set appointments so the office runs smooth and how to handle the billing and even bookkeeping for the office you’ll be working at.

 

If you are taking the associate of science degree program you will take courses that focus on medical office supervision, patient assessment and emergency care as well as course in composition and psychology.

 

Once your core courses are completed you’ll begin your externship at a dental office. This hands-on experience will allow you to work next to dental professional and a great way to show off the skills you learned. They recommend taking advantage of the many volunteer opportunities available including that of the job market is shown to grow by 31% through 2020. When you are successful with your medical assistant courses you’ll then start your externship at a local medical office.

 

When you work in this field smaller practices are looking for individuals who can multi-task and who can handle a variety of duties. You should have good communications skills since you’ll be dealing with so many people including management. You may also choose to further your career by obtaining additional training and certifications from the (AAMA) American Association of Medical Assistants and the AMT Association of Medical Technologists.
